I've attempted to connect the laptop to the pc (all cords & accessories plugged in to the appropiate spaces) and even had some sort of LAN connection...yet I can connect to the internet with the PC, but can't connect the laptop to the PC (no direct connection anyway...they seem to reconnize the fundamental connection) nor the internet. Any help, please?

The modem's connected from the phoneline to the router...the pc's connected to the router...the laptop is connected to the router.

its not clear on how your network setup is done. I presume you are connecting your desktop and the laptop to the router using two saperate connections correct? Usually the setup is like this:

Telephone or Cable connection to the DSL or Cable Modem
-
Modem to the Network Router
-
Router to the Desktop and Laptop.

Now you are able to get the internet on the desktop but not on the laptop correct?

Are you using a router? If so, the two computers need to connect to the router, not to each other.
