Do i need to go to court to get a surname change for my child? whats the procedures? thanks.

Where is the other parent, and is he/she in agreement with the name change? You and the child's other legal parent would both have to agree to have the child's name changed.

Another thing that the judge will look at is your reason for the name change. If it is so that the child will have your name, and not the name of the father, it might not be approved.

You can do a google search for:
change name "new york" child

and you'll probably find a form you could modify to submit to the court. Like I said, however, unless both parents are in agreement, the judge might not agree.
