I know this may sound funny but I've always been afraid of heights. I hate having this fear and I really want to overcome it and go on a roller coaster with my friends for once. What are some ways to help my fear?

My Guide To Conquering A Coaster

Theres 2 ways. Well 4 1 u have 2 go ON a roller coaster. I swear it looks scary and I'm a coaster lover and I'm always scared going up. The biggest fear people have about coasters is DYING. You have better chance of dying driving 2 the park then dying at the park on a roller coaster. If they werent safe, they wouldnt be built. So don't listen 2 people's crazy stories or Final Destination 3 (haha).

Start off big...Ride a big coaster first. IT DOESNT MATTER IF IT HAS LOOPS OR NOT.

People are so afraid of loops. Do u know what they feel like. It feels like u spun around in a cirlce. It's really not that scary AT ALL.

If ur scared of heights, close ur eyes up the lift hill or on the launch (depending on what kind of coaster ur on). The best thing 2 do is scream at ur friend(s). When my cousin first convinced be 2 go on a ride with him I was scared sh*tless. I had my eyes closed. I was screaming at him "I f*ckin hate u 4 bringing me on this!" Before I knew it we crested the top of the lift and went down the drop. As we climbed up the next hill I opened my eyes. I grabbed the restraint 4 dear life and when it was over....I GOT RIGHT BACK IN LINE!

People are so afraid by the looks of something, but you won't know u like something unless u try it. So trust me, unless u think ur gonna get nauseated on the ride from the forces (and dont use that as an excuse), then go on because trust me, it will be worth it. It's the best adrenaline pumper.

Oh, someone has at least been afraid of roller coasters. I'm afraid I'll lose my glasses on a roller coaster, so I put them in my pocket... I was afraid to go on the Tower of Terror ride in California when I was like 6. I started crying and when I actually rode it, it was fun. I started going on it whenever I could. Well, if you're afraid of heights, just get on a simple, no loop coaster and just close your eyes and scream like you're surrounded by zombies. Screaming gets a lot out of the body. Oh man, I remember when I was riding the Deja Vu ride at Six Flags Great America. It was a vertical one and I shouted so much, my voice was hoarse. Oh, good fun.

The Raging Bull at Great America was good too. The safest ride I've ever had. It was quite high, no loops, just really fast and it had some 45 degree turns, and you were kept in by a lap bar, but it was so safe and smooth, you wouldn't care if it had a overhead restraint or not. One of the best loopless coasters I ever rode.

Discover Channel had a show on this a long time ago. The premise was people were trying to get over their fear of roller coasters. They met with a shrink at a park and talked it out and went on a ride. They went on a major ride the Incredible Hulk at Islands of Adventure in Universal Studios in Orlando. Everybody was scared beyond belief but once they came back you should have seen the smiles they had.

I used to be terrified of coasters until my family started dragging me on them. Now, I love them! I still get the butterflies in the stomache, but that's all a part of the fun.

If you're really scared of the coasters, start small. Pick a family coaster or something without inversions, then work your way up. Or just go all out and pick the highest, fasters, craziest coaster, sit in the front, and have at it. There's no way to break the fear except by facing it.

I once went on a roller coaster thing in Universal Orlando. SCARY! I closed my eyes during the scary parts. LOL. Bad picture! I just say to think "If I don't stop being afraid now BORING!" I just say to Encourage yourself in different ways. I've been on like 7 or 8 roller coasters, trust me. Think of the fun and not the scary!

i just overcame this fear as of last summer. i was at busch gardens and my friend forced me on alpengeist. i was scared at first because it was a very tall ride (i'm afraid of heights). after riding it i wanted to go on again. when you are on the roller coaster, you are so pumped up on adreniline that you don't pay attention to how high up you are or anything. you just enjoy the ride. so some ways to help your fear could be what I did...ride a fairly large coaster (not the biggest in the park) and just enjoy it. you may not like it at first but trust me...you'll be pumped up on adreniline and sometimes you'll forget where you are.

All you have to do is yell going down the hills. I used to fear roller coaters myself but then, instead of trying to hold in the yelling, I just let it all out. Now, I am not afraid to ride any roller coasters.

you can If you were to build your own roller coaster with a program called roller coaster tycoon! It helps with different camera views, different turns, hills, and G-forces. It pretty cool. Then after building one you'll know a little bit more about how one works etc.

I have a fear of heights too. I suppose the best way is to start riding them. If you ride them enough, you'll forget your fear or get used to it. It'll be hard the first few times, but once you get past that, you'll realize that you're still alive and that it was a blast.

just like many things in life...start small, and work your way up. im not saying to go on the kiddie coaster or anything. but try to go on a ride that goes fairly high in the air, it doesn't even neccesarily have to be a rollercoaster. and then just work your way higher and higher. this might take a couple trips to your local amusement park. godd luck and have fun!!
