Aristotle's version, which is by far the best I know of:

A virtue is a mean between extremes. To have too much or too little of any characteristic is a vice, but to have a moderate, appropriate amount is a virtue. Some virtues include courage, fortitude, generosity, compassion, wisdom, and honesty.

For example, if you're too compassionate, you pity even those who do not warrant pity, or you are too emotionally affected by others' misfortunes to be of real assistance to them. If you're not compassionate enough, you're hard hearted and inhumane. In between these extremes is the virtue of compassion.

One who has developed virtues by the practice of these means between extremes is virtuous.

A virtue is not necessarily a trait that is accepted by all.
It may or many not be moral.
It is merely a condition that results in a certain outcome.

The musical "Kismet" (meaning "fate") says this about virtue:

"Virtue is the purest lily Allah ever grew."

"Virtue is the spotless fruit upon the tree of character."

"Virtue is its own reward."

Whatever definition you choose, whether from these answers or from some other source, the definition becomes yours as a consequence of your choice. Live it!
