I'm a first time driver, this will be my first car. I was looking for something affordable (5 grand range) and nice. I stumbled across a 1999 Chrysler Cirrus LXi that a person is selling in my neighborhood for $4,400. It looks nice, and it loaded with all the extras (including sunroof). The only thing my parents are concerned about is the miles. It has 107,000 which they feel may be high.

Can anyone knowledgeable in cars tell me Chrysler's Reputation and quality? Is 107,000 a lot of miles in which the Transmission is going to break down soon, or does it still have some life left in it? I know it's impossible to say for sure, as every car is different, but in general if anyone could give me an idea.

Thank you.

For $4400, not gonna be able to buy a Honda Certified, maybe put a down payment on one, though. And even certified used vehicles can break down.

Miles don't matter as much as maintenance, a well maintained vehicle can last over 300k miles.Be sure to ask for receipts for maintenance, and may even want to have a shop inspect it before committing to buy it.

Also, if they're asking $4400, talk them down a bit, sellers usually set prices higher than they're willing to go so they have some bargaining room.

Don't buy a Chrysler product!!! You will regret it. We had 2 Chrysler Vehicles ('89 Voyager & '93 Ram Van) and we hated them both! My parents bought the Voyager in '90 as a demo with 19K, we had to replace the tranny in '91 (not sure of exact date or mileage),and then we had to replace the tranny again in about 1998. The reason I say this is that the Voyager's and Cirrus's use the same 3-speed Transmission. Then our Ram had tons of problems like the dash lights not working, the engine would cut out on you while driving, the radio never worked. Then my folks said ENOUGH,were buying a NISSAN!!! And to this day we have never had any problems with it! Gosh even our 3 GM's were far better ('84 Regal with 145K (would still be driving it if not wrecked),'86 Firebird with around 200K,and '95 Cutlass Ciera with 118K). The ciera is the one we drive now. We would of bought another GM but we wanted to try a Japenese car

Make sure that whatever used car you are seriously thinking of buying that you check its VIN against CarFax. This will tell you if the car has ever been in an accident, etc. I bought a used Chrysler about a year ago - great car!! - and found out that it had been a rental used in Fla. It's just good knowledge to have. CarFax will cost you a few $$, but it's well worth it.

on a scale of 1to10 i would give it a 4 .. no matter how cheap you get the car for it will be unforgiving ... i worked on mopar vehicles for 7yrs and lets say the cirrus is not a reliable car . the tranny is a 41te which is a four speed and just like all mopar front wheel drive trannys they fail especially in the winter time when ice/snow ..causes diff pin to lock up or destroy transmission .. if you got 5 grand get a Honda civic or Toyota Camry .. don't waste your money on that car because it will cause you to walk more than drive

you may wanna experiment with prices. it sounds like a good car, but the miles are a little high. it probably wont last very long. although my aunt bought a 2001 chevy impala with 110,000 miles but she regrets it now because it constantly has unloading problems in the transmission. my opinion is to look around more and find a better buy.
