No.

Dogs sniff each other's butts because that's how they identify the other dog. They same thing with the smell of the feces or the urine left by another dog. They remember the scent and can then identify friends and enemies by the scent memory they have collected. It is not vile or nasty - it is how they do things. That's also why they will sniff the crotch of a person. People see it as offensive, but that's how they know who they are dealing wtih. Every living thing has urine and feces - and each one has a different smell or scent attached to it.

I'm not sure I agree with Alex.
I see no reason why animals other than humans cannot, at least "engage in homosexual behavior" (and I'm fairly certain animal researchers have witnessed such behavior). I guess since they can't reason they wouldn't identify themselves as gay (but neither would they identify themselves as straight).

Oral sex among animals is also not unheard of, but is thought to be rather less common.

In this case, as others have suggested, there is probably nothing sexual in the behavior. It likely has more to do with grooming, scent marking / recognizing, and things of that nature.

I don't know that it's all that common, but I doubt it is particularly abnormal.

Animals besides humans cannot be gay. The simple reason for this is that they cannot reason. The only reason your dog is doing this is to get a scent as to who the other dog is so he/she can identify him as a friend or foe.
