An id, you mean the ones that didn't want to conform so they dressed in their own individual style? Like the thousands of others that were identical?
The kids these days are way better off than we were. They don't feel the need to dress they way their musical tastes say they should (mostly). The music that is available is still the same, from the old immortals like Pink Floyd to the new up and coming groups like Acanthus. I wish the variety was as great then as it is now. Some of the new stuff like from Linkin Park and Bullet, as well as Hoobastank, is absolutely FANTASTIC!
As it is, the Emo's are put down as depressed people who self harm all the time, and are probably devil worshippers as well.
Punks were always (and to a point still are) considered to be trouble makers that would stab you as soon as look at you.
These days kids are still taken at face value but not ostracised as much simply for dressing a certain way (unlike the dreaded British 'Hoodies'!). Same shite different era.

Yeah I agree that there is no group to belong to nowadays. You were a new romantic or hippy or whatever but now you are either in or out and have only 2 choices. Take me back to the70's & 80's Please.

i do no longer see any specific reason of this ****, this is merely that lacking circumstances are being suggested greater and in the absence of (that's what they think of) any sturdy subject matter, media merely tries to replenish the vacuum with the help of airing and to a pair volume sensationalizing such lacking incidents. besides, it merely happened that lacking circumstances over the previous couple of months or so happened one after the different, this is in elementary terms a twist of fate.

there are actually quite a lot of 'scenes' at the moment. emo, indie, scene, new rave, new wave etc. i would recommend new rave. you get to dress well, also indie's getting kinda obvious now.
and there is a lot of good music around at the moment actually. if you know where to look. NOT the charts lol they are a joke, who actually listens to **** like 'just jack'. give me some radiohead/pink floyd/sigur ros anyday.
some of the young do actually have good music taste...
sorry for the rant lol
