Yes and No, You can purchase a switch that will trigger an alarm when there is an accumulation of water, however to turn on a pump would also require an accumulation of water within a confined space like a reservoir so the pump could prime and pump. A laundry room for example would not normally have such a reservoir. There are devices available that connect to the water connections for a washer that will turn off the water should water be detected on the floor. These are used in case a hose breaks connecting the washer to the water supply. .

A float switch will take some accumulation to trigger.You are looking for some type of low current probe,as in a steam generator water level probe.Try WW Grainger catalogue

Go too a marine store and buy a bilge pump they come in a variety of sizes from very small to very large depending on the size of the job

Sounds like a sump pump to me. They do make switches with floats that will make contact with a rise n the water. They are to let you know that the sump pump has failed and the water is rising.
