Respect and acceptance is a nice ideal, but like all ideals not 100% possible. As a human, sometimes other people, or groups of people, just annoy the snot out of me. But that does not give me the right to go out of my way to make their lives any worse. In those rare cases, there's no way I am going to accept and respect, but I can at least shut my chow hole and tolerate.

Tolerance implies someone hating something but putting up with it. It is not acceptance. Tolerance is allowing something but you still wish it gone. Respect and acceptance is what we need, tolerance doesn't get rid of the unjust hate, merely buries it for someone else to use for you.

No i believe you should strive to respect differing opinions and accept them, merely tolerating things is like saying you're better than the other person.

If you can't respect or accept people, than tolerating them is the next best thing.

Try giving more detail. For instance, "While doing time, Clem tolerated picking up soap in the shower in order to win respect and acceptance".
