well, the fact that harry is a parseltongue (is that how you spell it?) is pretty important because in the second book, when harry was wondering who his ancestors were, it connected him to salazar slytherin himself. also, somewhere in one of those books dumbledor said that when harry was cursed by voldemort he got the ability to talk to snakes.
in the sixth book, when dumbledore takes harry into his memories, harry listens when morfin and those other creeps talked in parseltongue, if that helps.

Yes Parseltongues are relevant to the books and it is mentioned again after the second book, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
It is vital to the storyline of book two and is mentioned again in books four, five and six.
Oh and I want to add to paigeroglitz whom has already answered this question just a couple of people before me that Barty Crouch Jr is not seen by Frank (not fred). That is added in the movies (among other things added and changed) it is not in the book. Barty Crouch Jr is still spellbound at home at that point.
But David Tennant (lush)certainly made that character very sexy, nothing like the straw coloured haired, freckled face Crouch Jr. that was decribed.

Yes, it is relevant, just not as much so as in the CoS. It may or may not be as important in the Deathly Hollows, but it's still important because sometimes, Voldemort talks in Parseltounge. It enables Harry to understand him. Also, it could be used to gain info from snakes.

YES!!!! firstly harry potter is a parsletongue and so is voldemort and secondly in book 4 it is used between voldemort and his snake as in parts such parts as when the old houskeeper man whose name i believe was fred sees voldemort, barty crouch jr, and wormtail/ peter petigrew. it is also a connection between harry and he who must not be named because it is thought that voldemort passed on the parsletongue trait to harry when he tried to use the killing curse on him when he was only ababy. it may come in in book #7 too.
