The Beatles or The Kinks, it's very close, some of Ray Davies lyrics are incredible, but I must say that The Beatles consistently produced top rate material through the years, so it must go to the Beatles then. If The Beatles minus Paul Mc Cartney could have teamed up with Ray Davies the material that they might have churned out would have been incredible.

The Beatles by far. The Small Faces and The Kinks were both solid groups, but the Beatles were way more consistant, putting out one great disc after another.

are you kidding? did ya even have to ask this? The Kinks had their moments, Small Faces had some hall of famers, but The Beatles had all of the above. Their only misstep was that Magical Mystery Tour film, and even then, the music was good. Beatles, baby, Beatles.
P.S. The Who or The Rolling Stones woulda made for a better debate

Beatles, I think. But I really loved Ray Davis and Stevie Marriott - especially the latter, because he was so 'mod' and I saw him play in a pub in Peckham years ago. I think he died in a house fire. But I suppose musically the Beatles are the best of the lot. They have made some amazing records. I think Eleanor Rigby is my favourite - also She's Leaving Home. Philosophically I rate All You Need Is Love. But that's another subject ...

The Beatles. I like the other bands too and they are important, but there's only so much of those bands I can take. The Beatles have variety, a massive amount of recorded material, and it's all done well.

the small faces when at their best - they had the best songs for a short while - who could not think that 'itchykoo park' was the best thing that year!!! was it 67 or 68 - i still remember listening to it on the grassy bank in sunny break times at school - one of the girls had a 7" single record player that the disc slotted into - the first Walkman!!!
