I am starting on maintaining a yard, and would like to have some pointers on how to do it.?

I have rocks everywhere, overgrown grass, weeds, and parts of thorn bushes everywhere. I want to fix up the yard, and would like to find out if anyone has any ideas of what to do. How do I get rid of the rocks? Should I dig up the yard, and put new soil in it? What are some good ways of fixing the yard? I'm new with yard work, but would like to learn. Thanks for your help.

Best thing to do is put all your plantings, flowers, shrubs and bushes along the outside perimeter of your yard. Perhaps a two to four foot area or more ..... using railroad ties or edging material to border it off. The inside .... you should remove the rocks so it doesnt ruin your mower ..... get rid of any thorns ..... and stuff. Once this inner area is clear .... it should be easy to maintain it by cutting with a lawnmower. You could even rmove all the rocks to you outer perimeter ..... making like a rock garden or something. Weedwackers are a great speedy help and save your back and time.

Pavers are easy to install and make a nice patio area for you to eat or relax.

Get the bigger rocks and put aside. The smaller ones can wait. Cut the mess as low as you can with a mower without tearing things up. Plant grass seed. Grass will choke out most weeds and stuff. Once you get grass going nature will take care of a lot.

move the rocks, kills the weeds and dig the roots up and try and clean them all out. if they are small rocks i might want to hire someone to clear them or its a hella long j-o-b

One thing I recommend is Scott's weed and feed. Does wonders with one application. Get a spreader (ask them at the store) and it's just that easy.

get rid of everything you dont like and enhance and maintain the things you do like...always lots of yard work to do. cant wait until the snow melts so i can get back outside and off here...
