Some friends and I heard about a haunted patch of woods in Eades, Tennessee. If you've ever been there, you'd fall in love with the place. It looks like something straight out of Lord of The Rings during the morning time. Anyway, there was a supposed haunted grove of some sort. I was all like, yeah sure, whatever. Let's do this thing.
So there was like three cars full of us. I was riding in the one that lead the way to the grove. We were on a winding dirt road through thick woods. It was maybe 4:30 AM or 5:00 AM, sometime around then in summer of 05'. We came to a clearing that was about the size of a football field and there in the middle was like a small grove of Oak trees. There was a trail from the road through the tall grass of the field. And we began to get out of our cars and walk it.
I remember it was maybe seven of us. A few had flashlights...I was towards the front and as we're walking up to this grove. I swore that I was seeing something pitch black along the side of the woods adjacent to the trail. I asked my buddies if they noticed anything, and they replied no. After a few more minutes of this, my eyes started to adjust to the darkness.
It freaked me out a bit, because I would only see the thing at the corner of my eye, but when I looked in the direction of it, it wasn't there! Well anyhow we reached the grove, and to our surprise it was a very uneventful place. There were only small underbrush and lots of fireflies. It looked like maybe a bum or someone visited the place frequently. There was like some cloth or something on the ground. And I remember picking it up on the corner of a stick and jokingly waving it around in front of one of my girlfriend's faces.
My friend goes, "Hey, what's that over there?" And through the darkness he's pointing over across the field to what I can only explain as this, what looked like as silhouette of a very tall man. Staring at us. I say he was tall because the top of what looked like his head was reaching certain branches on the trees. Maybe it was the distane that gave the illusion of him being tall, but if this was the case, then that would have meant that he was only a few feet away from our group!
Well my friend starts freaking out! And all seven of us start running head strong through the tall grass back to our vehicles! And I can honestly say that it was the last time I got the H E L L out of dodge!

A few days ago but it was strictly for business. Still. It was nice to leave Dodge and see new people and places. I'm OK as long as I don't get snowed in again. Ever been to Dodge City? It's a great place.
