I replaced the engine because my wife tried to drive it home with no water pump.

Maintanence lite is just usually a lite to tell you that your oil and filter needs to be changed. This lite goes on at a pre set mileage indicator. It is not a check engine light, so i dont know why you replaced the engine. To reset the lite, hold in the odometer reset button and turn the key on to power, it should blink and then go out. If it is a check engine lite, then you can remove the red 10amp fuse for the ecm for 20 seconds and then put it back in. Another way is to disconnect the battery for 20 seconds and reconnect it. If the lite comes back on, then you have a faulty sensor. You can take it to any Auto Zone auto parts store to have it scanned a reset for free. too.
good luck..........

You'll probally have to call a couple of mechanics to find one that has the gizmo that will reset the system. My BMW had one of those lights, I just found a mechanic he reset it for free as long as I brought it to his shop when I needed some work done that I couldn't do. It took him all of 2min.
