I have just found a featherduster under one of my live rocks. It is very small and live in a small white tube. I cannot tell what kind it is because the coloring of the "feather duster" part is very faint. I would say the size of the tube and head in all is about the size of thumbtack. I just wanted to know what i should to maintain it. Do i need to feed it or add calcium or any other supplement? I have very strong lighting in this tank.

If it's anything like the ones in my tanks, you really don't have to do anything with them.

They started showing up in my small tank, so I took four of them and put them on a rock in my big tank, and now they have spread all over the place. Lol. They don't seem to have much of an issue reproducing, and I don't feed them directly. The only problem I have with them, is I have to get rid of some of them when they start to grow where I don't want them to grow.

They look real nice covering the two rocks I want them on.

These small ones are a different species than the large "Hawaiian" dusters you see for sale. These will stay small (usually less than an inch) and often multiply in your tank, living on the underside of live rock. They generally are pale, but a few I've seen are a brilliant scarlett - but they will be this way regardless of their size, so don't think that yours will change color.

As long as you're maintaining good water parameters (pH, nitrates) for salt and are caring for fish and/or other inverts in your tank, there won't be anything else you really need to do.

One type of these - they make a spiral shell that attaches to any surface - mine seem to like the front glass to be annoying - reproduce so rapidly they get to be a nuisance.

Thier is always supplements to add. C Balance is a gret one to add and thet will also help the live rock, Purple up and any Calcium If you are serious in salt/reef i would invest into a Calcium Reactor atumatic with CO2 total about 350-500 that will be a big help

Feather dusters feed off of plankton. You can get it where you buy your supplies. They are easy to maintain. Just every few days place a drop of plankton, and it should be fine. You can also go to saltwaterfish.com they have tons of info on everything, and they also have a forum.

I wouldn't do anything. Congratulations on the find though. The featherduster is a bottom feeder that eats waste. So no other supplement should be added.

just leave it alone, it'll grow, it eats off of the plankton and debris floating in the water.
