I was wondering if a gynecologist would just give me a hysterectomy to prevent unwanted pregnancies. I never want children and no birth control method out there seems to be 100% effective.

No, a doctor will not give you a hysterectomy to prevent pregnancy because there are a lot of complications and changes in the body after a hysterectomy. Many women have to begin hormone therapy after a hysterectomy because their estrogen levels become extremely low which cause unwanted hair growth, mood swings etc. Most doctors will not even tie your tubes if you have never had children because many women change their minds later in life. Birth control will probably be you only option.

Are you married? How old are you?

If you are married, than any doctor is going to want you to probably see a psychiatrist (a patronizing assumption that all women want children is typically responsible for this) and will want to talk to your husband/partner to make sure that you're both in agreement over not having children.

If you are under 30, the best option would probably be to get fitted with an IUD because it's almost impossible to find a doctor willing to perform a sterilization to women under 30 who haven't already had children. IUD's can be good for 5 or 12 years at preventing pregnancy.

Best of luck in finding a doctor! It's very difficult for younger women who know they don't want children to get the care that they require. Be prepared to be frustrated by antiquated gender roles, expectations, and stereotypes because they're going to come up ALL THE TIME.

Peace!

No. They will only do a hysterectomy if there is something wrong with you like disease or illness of your reproductive system. You could look into have a tubal done, but some docors are hesitant on this too if you are young. They are afraid you may regret it later. I know when I was young my mom's doctor would do one on her til she was 30 even though she knew she didn't want any more children.

Well what he will recommend is tieng your tubes. Just in case in teh future you might change your mind. But to do a Hysterectomy is a big operation. Tying your tubes is simple and you can't get pregnant either.

I don't know if you can get a hysterectomy but you could have a tubal ligation done. I think that is what it is called. It's when you have your tubes tied. I had one done 29 years ago after I had my 3rd and last baby.

It depends upon your age. They will not give a hysterectomy simply because you don't want chldren. There has to be a medical reason for it. The reason is because insurance won't pay for it unless it is mediclaly necessary.

Get your tubes tied. You don't want a hysterectomy, that's no fun at all, and you also deal with the whole hormonal thing.

Instead of taking that extreme jump, why dont you do an iud? there are 5 yr 10yr ones and who knows what happens if you and you honey decide you want to try or later in life you meet someone and they want one..... I not sure your relationship status, sry.
My mom has had an iud for almost 13 yrs now, she had a 5yr one (i have now) and got a 10yr after that one. You can remove it anytime and get a new one after the previous one expires. Read up on it, they're the highest known option besides tying tubes/ guy snipping.
GOOD LUCK

No he will not. Most likely he will recommend the depo shot or an IUD. Those are reversible. I never wanted children a few years ago and now I can't wait to have my first child.
Never say never when it comes to children.
