Fuel is not made in the tank. The tanks are mearly a storage container and are refilled on the ground between flights. Jets use kerosene, prop planes have pistons and run just like cars on gasoline. In order to reduce emissions of lead, they no longer run on high octane which was made be adding tetra ethyl lead.
