firstly make sure you can see your wireless adapter in Device Manager, there's usually a switch on the laptop to enable it.
click on start/control panel then double-click the network connections icon. click on 'view available wireless networks' then highlight your router and click 'connect'. there's a utility you can download from Linksys to automate setup:

With an ethernet cable or use a wireless connection if the Linksys is wireless.
Computer to router to cable modem or DSL modem to Internet.
