When the game was created by Dr. James Naismith, he used a soccer ball. But back in 1981 soccer balls didn't bounce well so, there was no dribbling, and i just think it stuck from then, And an oblong ball would make it hard to dribble and shoot through the circle hoops to unpredictable, probably slow the game down and make it less interesting.

Honestly this has to be the absolute DUMBEST question on earth are freaking stupid, you can't dribble a oblong ball, a change in ball shape would defeat the whole purpose of the damn game, the hoops would have to be changed and all the teams would suck, then nor more basket ball, please take a class or seek immediate medical attention because i think some one has hit you in the dome.

Watch my Pitt Panthers handle the ball sometimes...you'd swear the ball WAS oblong.

basketballs are round so u can dribble it with it coming back, say if they were square then it could hit a corner and bounce the other way.

With anoblong ball you couldn't bounce and keep control of it so it would change the whole game.

This is the dumbest question I have ever heard. I feel more stupid for reading it, either you are really dumb or you are really young.
