The war will not end until Bush and his cronies get all they can out of it. He will dump the problem on the next president, because thats the way this administration does things.

Democracy is when the people hold supreme power. We are a republic, which is a government that is ruled by those the people elect.
Too bad Americans can't elect better choices. But that's because the 'Republicrats' have monopolized our political system, making it impossible for anyone to actually win a 'free' election.
Bush won't end the war. Neither will Congress. They're all too beholden to the wealthy elitists, corporate greedheads, and industrial war profiteers who paid to get them elected.
I hope you're right: I hope the anti-war movement ends the war in Iraq, but it will have to take on a lot more power and structure than it has now in order to accomplish that lofty goal. -RKO-

In contribution to the other answers, although the atmosphere in American domestic politics is like that with Vietnam (such as the debate on staying or leaving), the level of protest today is nothing like that concerning Vietnam.
The main reason, of course, is that there's no draft. That's the reason we haven't seen protesters try to fight against the police or National Guard, such as with the '68 Democratic National Convention, or the Kent State shootings, respectively.

I heard this description of a democracy and a republic that I think is very apt. A democracy is like two wolves and a sheep voting on what's for dinner. In a republic, the sheep is likely to have a gun to protect itself! *sm*

And in the meantime, they can continue to pick America clean via the governments melting pot theory. Giving away the gas stations and motels, etc. was not an act of loyal politicians, but an under the table money grab, as usual. Politicians and all who believe in them are now classified as roaches. Look it up!

Democracy is mob rule. We are a Republic.
We, the people, voted both the President and the Congress we now have. We are responsible for what we have. So, we now have to vote outt the ones who do not do what we told them we wanted them to do.
Look at how the tax and spend liberals promised us what they were going to do when they go elected.
They did nothing; no pull ou in Iraq, no ethics overhaul, no funds misuse clean up,etc., etc.
So let's all pull together and throw the bums out, until they do what we tell them.
The first step is to take their goodies away from them, especially the right to raise their own pay. Then take away their unlimited expense accounts, travel accounts, office staff allowances, private glod-plated health insurance, etc. etc.

If you read what a democracy is.. what a republic is etc... we are BY DEFINITION closer to an oligachy than anything else bordering on a kleptocracy-rule by thieves. common for failed democracies to wander down this route.
read more about types of goverments and decide for yoursel
Wikpedia is a great source for this

And eventually the people will stop the illegal border crossings. Our government is a joke. It doesn't matter if your Democrat or Republican...we've all been sold down the river to special interest groups and PAC's. In '08 we've got to throw them all out....every one of them.
