it has to be a bad brake light switch and it's mounted on top of the brake pedal.

Most likely it is the brake light switch (the switch that turns the lights on when the brake pedal is depressed) that it faulty. I had that problem with a vehicle and I had to replace the switch TWICE. What happened was that the copper inside the switch had become fatigued and ultimately broken at one of the bends and the contacts stuck together. Another thing that sometimes happens is that the pedal mechanism gets stuck and doesn't return all the way to the "up" position and the switch gets stuck "on." Anyway, that's where I would start investigating.

My problem was a faulty module ( located in the trunk)
but I've heard of others with a faulty ( weak) spring that pulls the brake pedal back to it's original position. When the spring is weak, it allows the pedal to rest on the stop light switch.
You could try replacing the spring ( it's cheap, like less than $3) if that doesn't work, let a mechanic find the short. It won't take long or cost much either. ( I think my entire repair, including the module was $75)

It is probably the brake light switch. It's sticking in the "ON" position instead of releasing, which turns the brake lights off. It's a spring loaded switch. It's either just above your brake pedal or there's a switch on the Brake Master clyinder. Take it to "Good mechanic" or repair shop and have them check it out. It shouldn't cost alot to fix. You can probaly buy the brake light switch at a local parts house and do it yourself if you have any mechanical ability.

Look at the brake light switch and see if it is returning to the off position when the brake pedal is in the neutral position. In it is stuck in the on position, replace the switch.

Sounds like the brake switch is bad i had to replace mine twice in the same year once the plastic part broke second time it just went out. It could also be a faulty module but the first is most likely that's were i would start.

Assuming your foot is not still on the brake, then you have either a stuck switch at the brake pedal or a short circuit somewhere along the line.

Shouldn't be a difficult repair.

Good Luck!

either yourt brake light stop switch located at the brake pedal is either defective or out of adjustment. Remove the wire connector from the switch and the lite will go out for now until you buy a new switch.
good luck........
