Whoever is more honest, and whoever is more rational.
I don't care if they argee or disagree with an issue or person, and I don't care if I agree or disagree with them.
I value those who present their opinions rationally, and calmly, and with integrity and respect for those who think otherwise.
And I do not value those who think they are the only valid perspective, and who attack anyone who thinks differently.

A good critic is the best thing you can have. Not a mealy mouthed nasty insult person but someone who offers creative and insightful ideas that are actually the best support of all.
The teacher who red inked your wonderful writing, the composition you thought could not be improved upon. He inks it with positive suggestions and you think... SHEEESH! But you want that A+ so you follow through on the suggestions only to find that they work and take you to that A+ and the satisfaction of knowing you did the best.
That to me is support... and criticism at its best.
Criticism just to mouth off and be cruel does not even deserve mention!

If you are young or new to an area, it is good to get advice from intelligent critics. Once you are mature or have gained good experience to make your own decisions and form an intelligent point of view - you will value a supporter more.

In life a critic. They will always tell me what I am doing wrong and what I need to fix, but a good critic will also tell someone when a person is right or doing well.
Of course you get used to this line of thinking in the military, or in any performance arena.
