Bascially. If i get a mac, is it better to get it with a G5 (or the latest G processor) or an intel. The advantage I see with an intel is that I can also run windows XP. Which is the bette processor if this matter is dis-regarded.

Cheers

I should have said I am talking about dual processors. Is it better to get an intel 1 (possibly the core 2 duo) or a G dual 1 (if they exist) or just a normal G processor

If your thinking about getting a Mac go through with it because macs are less likely to get viruses.But apple is no longer making the G5 because it was too slow for them so they partnered with Intel. So your options for dual core macs are a Mac Mini from apple.com,

* 1.66Ghz Intel Core Duo
* 512MB memory
* 60GB hard drive1
$599.00

A 13" Macbook

* 1.83GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
* 512MB memory
* 60GB hard drive1
* Combo drive
$1,099.00

A 15" Macbook Pro

* 2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
* 1440 x 900 pixels
* 1GB memory
* 120GB hard drive1
* 6x double-layer SuperDrive
* ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 graphics with 128MB SDRAM
$1,999.00

An iMac 17"
* 1.83ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
* 512MB memory
* 160GB hard drive1
* 24x Combo drive
* Intel GMA 950 graphics
$999.00

Or if you like fast machines
A Mac Pro running

* Two 2.66GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon "Woodcrest" processors for a total of a quad core mac!!!!!

* 1GB memory (667MHz DDR2 fully-buffered DIMM ECC)

* NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT graphics with 256MB memory

* 250GB Serial ATA 3Gb/s 7200-rpm hard drive1

The G4 and G5 family of processors are no longer produced in the Mac lineup and are inferior to the current Intel Core II Duo processors apple is using.

If you are going to get a Mac, go with an Intel as they are much faster. And if you wanted to waste all that technology, you can install Windows XP on the beast

Definitely get the intel processor! Apple will continue to support the G5 for some time, but why go with older technology?

I dont think Apple is making their own processors for the computers. (Correct me if Im wrong) Im sure they only use Intel Core 2 Duo now. Go with a dual core with around 2.0 ghz, You should be find for a while without any CPU upgrades.

frankly id get an intel over a G5 any day. BUT now that mac os x supports intel motherboards, you can get a PC and buy mac os x seperatly. it gives you more options of what to pick and its MUCH cheaper than buying a mac.
