When you close the doors they seem to just hang there, or if you wait they sometimes go back slowly. Most of the time they get caught in the doors ( front doors).
Does this mean they are unsafe?

They are still safe, that just means that the coil that retracts them is a little loose, if they have stopped locking then they are not safe but the coil does not have anything to do with the locking device, just make shure that the seat belt is tight when u are driving.

I don't know if this works on your '05, but there was a service bulletin for my '94 LeBaron that gave a fix for this. It was easy.

Pull the seat belt ALL THE WAY OUT. Now, let it roll in just a very small amount, and give a sharp tug. Remember, you're not trying to yank them out of the car, so not too hard!

Then, let them retract, and test. Something gets out of adjustment in the earlier models, could be the same on yours. At least if this doesn't work, you've not spent anything but a few seconds.

Good thing I got a Chrysler Town & Country otherwise I would have not know what you were driving.

I should be getting 10 points and a hamburger and supersize the fries. Check this out for your seatbelt and bookmark the site.
http://www.ownersite.com/RecallMain.cfm?action=campaigns&make=CHRYSLER&model=TOWN%20AND%20COUNTRY&year=2005

And then if you bookmark it, then it only takes a few seconds to check on the recalls at least once a month. Write all the info down so if you go to the dealer he can look it up faster. They have a jillion customers and they can not know every detail about the cars. They should but then the power of the internet shall keep you safe.

depending on how many miles you have on the van, your seat belts may still be under warranty...if i remember correctly, the emergency restraint system is covered for longer than the factory warranty (typicaly 3 years 36,000 miles for domestic vehicles).

but as the previous poster said, they are not unsafe to use.

if they are cut or frayed at all, then yes, they are unsafe to use.
i would contact my Chrysler dealership and ask if your seatbelts are still covered under factory warranty.
