it's perfectly safe, because the short of it is that unless the firmware on your psp is version 1.50, 2.71, or Dark_AleX's custom firmware (it definitely won't be this last one) then NOTHING you download off the internet will even run on your psp so you'd be wasting your time in the first place.
only the above versions run 'homebrew' (non-sony) applications, which means only the above versions can run 'devhook', which means only the above versions'll run games off the memory card - ie. downloaded/pirated games.
to see what version firmware is on your psp, do this:
• from the psp's main menu, goto 'settings'
• then 'system settings'
• then 'system information'
• you should see where it says: System Software Version x.xx
x.xx is your firmware version, if it's none of the one's i mentioned above and you still want to get downloaded games running on your psp it means a fiddly and dangerous procedure of upgrading and downgrading your firmware version to get back to version 1.50, and then install the custom version firmware 3.10 oe-c - and this is a process that if it goes wrong YOUR PSP WILL BE TOTALLY UNUSABLE!
again, if you have the above version of firmware to begin with, and you still want to risk it, start at this site:
