if you are a teenager, which I am assuming you are, your period is late most likely due to the fact that your body simply is not ready for you to ovulate. You may not be fully developed yet or your body may be expending so much energy that it simly doesn't have enough left to kickstart your period. If you're an athlete, that's probably your best bet. Many girls don't even start there period until they're sixteen or even later.
However, if you are really concerned, talk to a doctor about it and she/he can run some tests to see if there are physical factors preventing you from having your period. You will have to take a pregnancy test out of technicality, get a sonogram to make sure you have all of your "equipment," among other things. The front running cause for girls not having their period is thyroid disease, so if you are underweight for your age bring that up to your doctor as well. Good Luck!

I'm not sure if you mean that you've suddenly stopped having your period, or that you've never started...? If you've never had it, I wouldn't worry unless you were over 16 or 17. If this is the first year you've had your period, I also wouldn't worry about it. My first year was off and on the whole time until my body figured out what it wanted to do.
If you normally have your period and then it stopped suddenly...I'd wait a few weeks before getting really worried and seeing a doctor. Your period can become irregular from stress, change of diet, or any number of things. Are you eating enough? A lot of girls who try to starve themselves to be skinny often stop having their period.

Have you been stressed out lately? Have you lost a lot of weight? Those are both reasons why your period might become irregular. If you're really worried, check it out with your doctor to be safe.

It can take up to 2-3 years for your cycle to become regular after you start.
