What do you think the true meaning of the movie 'Labyrinth' is, besides Sarah going after Toby? I think Jareth, the Goblin King, was secretly in love with Sarah. I mean, think about it.

1.) Ballroom scene. Some say it was an act of distracting her from getting her little brother. I think otherwise.

2.) To give her anything.

3.) Apparently, he had always watched her from his crystal ball if he wasn't an owl at the time.

I can't really think of some reasons at the moment, but I do believe the true meaning in the movie was Jareth acting in love fo Sarah, instead of only wanting to keep Toby.

Tell me what you think!

God Bless!

Jareth is a dark reflection of Sarah's inner personality, granting the horrible wish of taking away her baby brother. He is a construct, based on a story her mother used to star in. So, naturally, he would be in love with Sarah because she created him in her mind. He is a catalyst and an obstacle to be overcome. The story is really about Sarah.

Sarah is a teenager rebelling against what she sees as the oppression of her father and step-mother. By going on this adventure, she learns that what she had viewed as oppression was actually love coming from her family. She discovers her love for her brother, no longer seeing him as a burden. She also overcomes her shyness, leaving behind her "loner" attitude by making friends on her journey.

By going into a fantasy world, she comes out better equipped to handle her every-day life and live in the real world rather than a fantasy.

I think the character of Jareth was supposed to be in love with Sarah, but David Bowie is just so GAY that he can't really seem to pull it off.

Maybe if they had cast someone along the lines of an Orlando Bloom, John Rhy Davies or Johnny Depp, they would have been able to make it clear what Jareth wanted. Heh heh.

Please do an internet search on the topic - as odd as it is (fairyman having a crush on a teenage girl), many websites are devoted to Sarah/Jareth. There's a lot of great fan fiction out there as well.

I think the true meaning of the movie, however, is growth/change/maturity, and how it happens over a journey/quest (i.e. life).

I know what you mean. But I think the movie was true because her mother got better when she put that mandrake root under her bed. Also the key she got from the toad, this was all tangible stuff that even her family saw. It had to be real, the movie wouldn't be what it was without it.

That was pretty much the whole point. The whole reason he gets toby was to lure her into his world. His love for her is stated at the beginning of the film and is repeated at the end during the confrontation scene. (ps. BEST MOVIE EVER!)
