For many many months now I have had very painful ankles. Whenever I get up, even after a short while the pain in my ankles is immense. I have also been unable to walk with my right foot completely on the floor for some time as it hurts. Also for the last 3 days both my legs have felt really really cold from the ankle up to the knee. I don't have any swelling, redness or have had a fall recently. Any ideas as to what could be the matter?

I am 26 but I am over weight by bout 5 stone. Could this be my body telling to get off my fat backside and do something bout it?

Sounds like really poor circulation, make a visit to your physician.
I would recommend exercising but that's after consulting your doctor.

If your legs are cold and not your feet then it's unlikely to be circulation. However if you smoke then it could be and a cause for concern.

Most likely is muscle tightness, try getting up and doing some calf stretches (properly). Nothing to strenuous. Then stretch your quads (the bigger muscles at the top of the leg.

This will improve circulation but also allow more Oxygen (blood) into the muscles and keep you warm.

Painful ankles can be a whole heap of things including your shoes. Visit a physio or even a doctor as soon as you can. Try walking around in good sensible shoes in the mean time!

I'd really need more information than you've given - age, weight, Body mass index etc, but overall i'd agree with the others on here and say circulation. Chances are your doctor will put you on a mild course of something like Wolfrine or other blood thinning medicine.

Definately see a doctor as soon as you can. Bad circulation to any extremities will cause all sorts of problems , especially if you go out in adverse elements like cold and rain. Good luck at the doctors. Hope it doesn't turn out to be anything too serious?

this could be almost anything. you are best advised in the UK to call NHS direct for professional trained advise on 0845 46 47
if you need to see your doctor they will tell you, if you are best going to hospital direct, again they will be able to help, likewise if you can get help from your local chemist.

pain has hundreds of possible causes. the cold suggests a circulation problem (if your leggs are cold to the touch) (to my untrained eyes reading this question). so the pain could be as a result of not enough blood getting where it is needed or may be at worst a blood clot. you need professional medical help. sadly you are unlikely to get a 100% accurate diagnosis and hence treatment plan here on yahoo answers. but as someone else said circulation may not be the problem if your feet are still warm to the touch.

just go to your doctor at the first possible oppertunity and get a full medical checkup. and ask about possible considerations you need to take for you to start an exercise reigime and new dietary plan to get in shape as this pain and cold may be related to your weight problem. only a trained medic will be able to tell you for sure and be able to advise on what you can do in combination with any pills or potions to both solve your current problem and any that may be just about to make them selves known.

good luck and get well soon!
edit, not neceseralily to the recent addition (the overweight) but getting in shap would be a consideration.

Poor circulation, it sounds like. Or that peripheral artery disease. Need to have your doctor assess it. PAD is serious, as it can lead to heart attack or stroke.

May be time to lose a few pounds, and do whatever doc says.

Could be arthritis.Best get it checked by doc,it's been going on too long.Don't suffer any longer than necessary.

Just read bit about your weight and looks like that would contribute a lot.
