Well the Iraq War is the best political football they have right now. They are constantly trying to find other issues in which they can make a stand. If you look at the latest Bill to pass congress on the funding of the Iraq War you will see how they have added many 'earmark spending' proposals to it. Including subsidies for spinach farmers who were hurt by the ecoli bacteria scare a couple months ago. This was an issue the Democrats ran on in November and now they are using the Iraq War to fund these pork barrel projects. I mean why should the American people fund spinach farmers who put our people at risk of disease? Isn't this the argument that is used to legally discriminate against smokers? Politics is not about doing what is right people it is about doing what you can to get re-elected.

I am a democrat and I do not approve of the war in Iraq. We never should have gone in there in the first place. However, we are already there and the only way to get out, I hate to say this, is to surge more troops. Cutbacks in troop numbers only delay the war longer.
We need to throw every available resource now, fix the problem, and get out soon. If we do not have enough troops there we are putting the soldiers in Iraq in even more jeopardy because the are understaffed. I think the Democrats in congress know this but it would be political suicide to say it in public, since they have been riding the bandwagon of "stop the war" to get elected

Because Democrats don't have the courage to take a stand for what they believe. They want to stand on both sides of the issue so they can stay safe and not have to face the consequences for making a choice.
If they believe the war is really that bad, stand up and defund the war. They control the Congress, so do it.
If they believe the war is right, then support
it and stop trying to stab the troops in the back by talking out of both sides of their mouth.
Hypocrits and cowards.

you would be able to desire to take a Politics one 0 one direction. The Democrats have been pigeonholed because taking on maximum individuals interior the homestead. The Senate is in reality a wash. do not think of for one minute that the Dems did not totally intend to precise the wrongs brought about by the Bush administration's abuse of power and irresponsible judgements. regrettably, Congress painfully got here upon that the shape--extremely while it comprises the stability of powers--is heavily unsuitable. the administrative workplace has way too lots power and Congress is nearly impotent to do something approximately it till 2/3 of them stick at the same time and it ain't under no circumstances gonna take place.

Because the democrats and republicans agree that the "cut and run" plan is the worst possible thing that we could do in Iraq.
Very few democrats are anti-war to the point of cutting off all funding and pulling troops out immediately. If done, it would de-stabilize Iraq and allow extremist groups to take control of the country.
Democrats believe that Iraq could be made "independent" much sooner than republicans.
Additionally, while democrats are "anti-war," that doesn't necessarily mean they're anti-Iraq. Anti-war, for many democrats, means they were against the war originally.

1: Liberals are all bark and no bite...so they wont defend their own stance
2: By screaming anti-war, they get the votes of the weak and pathetic
3: 65% of America?? how about 65% of the weak willed that were surveyed....No one has ever survey me.
4: If they defunded the war, they would be the ultimate losers for years to come.
5: Nearly every Liberal voted in favor of the war...could they all have made mistakes??? Could they all be confused as Hillary was ( is )?

Because they're scared to death of being called anti-patriotic. I'm a Democrat and I wish they would stand up! OK, I ranted. Bush can veto without a 2/3 majority so they are in a tough place. They are working on interesting legislation, but the administration needs to weaken. Expect interesting subpoenas and more Republicans to join Democrats.

I normally disagree with anything you post but you pose a question I have been asking for months now. If these Democrats really had the courage of their so called convictions they would put up a resolution to defund the war. No riders or other pork legislation attached. Get a straight up or down vote.
They lack the balls to do this and want to have it both ways. They are pathetic hypocrites.

stupid question.
The only way to stop war is fix Iraq into a put together country and democracy. We can't just STOP funding all together. Troops would die, the country and anything we might have done would ultimately fall immediately. You can't tell troops that they can't have funding for their own lives. That is like your work place taking away your paycheck or benefits.

If they cut off funding that means that our troops already there will suffer. They will get less medical care, food, water. Democrats don't want anybody to die! That is why they peacefully ask the president to not send more troops, and pull some back. But he won't listen to congress. Which is very sad.
