I was watching Clerks 2. One of the guys that works at the restaurant called an african american a porch monkey. I had never heard that in my life. I was just sitting there wondering what the heck he was talking about! I finally got the hint when his friend said that he was using a racial slur. Has anyone else heard of this slur because it's new to me. I would have classified porch monkeys as the old people who sit out on their porch in front of their homes watching the cars pass. (Please don't be offended, I was just wondering if this was common knowledge or if no one else knew this one.)

i have never heard that particular slur, but i knew what it was as soon as i read it in your question.

i remember many years ago a sports announcer got fired because he called a wide receiver for the Washington Redskins a "monkey" because he was so quick and able to get away from defenders. he did not mean it as a racial slur, and i think that was taking the matter too far.

If you're being serious, I'm shocked. I know the slur and I really thought most people were aware of it. I first heard it when I was around 10 years old.

I haven't heard it in awhile and I thought it was kind of old fashioned.
