my daughter is 6 weeks old, and starting at about 2 weeks, she started grunting A LOT, and throwing fits, and when you change her diaper, she turns bright red, and kind of yells. also, when she's got a pacifier, and goes "ow ow ow ow", and she's just really noisy. she's also a very restless sleeper. she HATES to be swaddled. she screams if you do, and while she's sleeping ,she rolls from side to side, and grunts, and cries out, and throws her arms all over. is she alone, or has any one else had a baby as noisy as her?

I'd also like to add that she is a very happy baby, and rarely ever cries. she doesn't have gas, she gets rid of that PLENTY. haha. I just don't understand the rest of it.

It's kinda cute expect you start to worry about her.
Babies that age have a lot of trouble figuring out their digestive issues. Make sure you burp her well so she doesn't get too much gas. Gripe Water by Baby Bliss helps a lot.

About restless sleeping, a lot of parents are really confused about why their baby sleeps so restlessly. One of the main reasons has to do with something called the Moro-reflex. Also called the startle reflex. Theres a link to a site that talks about the moro-reflex in my sources area so you know im not making this up!

This is a totally normal thing that ALL healthy babies have. A reflex is the same thing that happens when your doctor taps that spot in your knee and your leg kicks, or the gag reflex when you feel something too far in the back of your throat you gag. You cannot help having a reflex, your body does it on its own. Babies have a few reflexes that are there from birth and that disappear after a few months. The Moro-reflex is one of them.
When a baby hears a sudden sound or moves too quickly, the moro-reflex happens. What it looks like is the baby might take a sharp breath in or hold their breath and then throw their arms and legs straight out, flail and pull their arms in. This reflex can happen many times in a row. The moro-reflex can cause another mororeflex to happen because the baby is flailing and cant help it. This usually upsets the baby who if is already crying, will then cry more because they cant control their body. If the baby is sleeping, the moro-reflex can still happen because its a reflex. When it happens while the baby is sleeping (which is usually a lot because in America we put the babies to sleep on their backs and this is one thing that causes the moro-reflex) if ithappens while he/she is sleeping it will wake the baby or cause the baby to sleep restlessly.
Think if you were sleeping and you rolled over a little and suddenly your arms and legs flailed without you controlling them, you'd be upset and sleep pretty restlessly too.
One thing that helps is swaddling. It doesnt stop the moro-reflex but it keeps it from happening too many times in a row and waking the baby before they are ready or making them sleep restlessly.
Some babies dont like the swaddling when they are awake. But if you can swaddle the baby once they fall asleep or rock the baby once they are swaddled and put them to sleep, You'll see definate improvement in her sleeping patterns.
I worked as an infant teacher and this problem came up all the time, we swaddled the babies in the day care and the moms were really confused why they slept so good at daycare and not at home. once they started swaddling at home again, the babies were better and i didnt come across one baby who didnt benefit from being swaddled when they were sleeping.

About the diaper changing and her crying about it, it takes a while for babies to get used to suddenly being bare bottomed and having cold air on the warmest part of their body all of a sudden. She's just telling you "HEY this SUCKS mom!" At about 4 mos old they start actually enjoying being without their diaper and wont mind being changed so much. Some babies always hate to be changed, some couldnt care less. A lot of babies turn red because they get tensed up right before or during a crying spell. My suggestion is learn to change the diaper as fast as you can and try changing her in the warmest spot you can. Also watch and see if your hands are cold or not if that makes any difference.

In all she sounds like a baby who is gonna tell you about what she feels and your in for a talker! Keep up the great job and i hope this info helped a little.

My baby hated to be swaddled too. She would wake up and scream until I took the blanket off her. I just made sure I dressed her in really warm jammies. She was a restless sleeper at that age and had her days and nights mixed up. She didnt grunt but made tons of cooing noises and cried whenever she was hungry, tired, had an upset belly, or needed a diaper change (she HATED having even a slightly wet diaper). When she had an upset belly, I would crush up half a peppermint candy and mix it in with some water. It works wonders.
A lot of babies limbs twitch when they're trying to go to sleep and the twitching makes it harder for them to sleep which is one of the reasons that swaddling comes highly recommended.
My neighbors son grunted all the time. He still does and he's 18 months old and he's completely normal. He's just a grunter. I wouldn't worry too much about your baby but you might want to see her pediatrician for advice about the diaper changing thing.

My son is two months old and he is the same way! He has hated to be swaddled from the day we left the hospital, especially if his arms were pinned down. He would move around until he had them out! My son will not even sleep in his bassinet or crib, My doctor recommended putting him in his car seat on the floor beside my bed and that is the only place he will sleep, otherwise he will flail about and make the hugest fuss!
My son won't even lay down like a baby in my arms. I have to prop him up, as though I am burping him with him sitting on my lap. Otherwise, he will freak out. He has held his head up from the day he was born. It's VERY weird. He acts like he is 5 months old!
He also has laughed out loud since 4 weeks and will "talk". I'll talk to him and he'll say "A-goo" or sometimes just a very shrill and excited "AHHHHHHHH!" It's hilarious!

my baby is very happy and talkative and did the same things she hates being clothed and covered up so she gets a diaper and away she goes....and even then she tries to take that off. also i cant sleep next to her cause she kicks and pinches me all the time so we nap in seperate rooms. my daughter has been doing this her whole life and she is almost 9 months old she wont even let me hold her to feed her but she is perfectly fine with being picked up and kissed as long as you dont hold her too long...........good luck she may never be calm and sensative but hey at least you wont have to worry about her being too dependent

OMG yes i have one that does the exact same thing. I got worried too and I was wondering is anyone else had that prpblem too. I went to the doctor about it and they said it is beause she is lonely and she needs to be played with. He suggested buying her some toys and give her something to play with when I change ehr nappy. He also said about the pacifier, that it could be hurting her in some way.

Is she on an iron formula? she maybe constipated because of the iron my daughter did the grunting and rolling and they told me that even though they had recommended a formula with iron she was being overloaded and it would cause her to become constipated you may want to check with your pediatrican to see about switching formulas

She might have gas. Try mylecone drops, if that doesn't help, maybe you just have a very vocal baby.
Good luck
