I just had windows xp re installed on my computer, but when I put a dvd in it says i need a decoder or something? whats up with that?

It's true you need a codec or get Cyberlink's powerDVD or VLC player. Refer to the link, also since you reinstalled all your driver are out of date including the decoder and updates for WMP update everything!!

Short of more info, its hard to say but you will need to install windows media player 9 or newer and install a dvd playing program called Power DVD or one like it.

I know i had this same problem, and i did not want to pay money to watch a dvd on my computer i just upgraded, so i found this neat program called VLC media player which plays dvds cds everything. And the cool part is it's free.

You don't have a CODEC for DVD. You can probably get a free one if you go to Google and type in: Free CODECs. Pick a site.
