You have to use different types of microphones depending on what instruments you are recording. If you are doing hip hop, maybe all the instrumentation is electronic...you would need a good vocal mic then. If you want to drop some real cash a company called BLUE makes amazing mics, I like the dragonfly because you can use it for guitars and vocals...it is good all around. A studio staple would be Neumann TLM 49 is a really warm vocal mic and won the TEC award for 2006. Anything in the TLM family would treat you right They come with a power supply, but if your mixer does not have really good preamps you might want to get something external....tube preamps are really warm and nice. DBX makes some good ones that are not tooooo expensive. Also, make sure you use a compressor when recording vocals or else you will have big problems with your levels.

hey yeah, i bought a behringer b-2 and it has been awesome, about as good as another $500 microphone i have, but for only $150. i do not record as much hip-hop/r&b, but i have used it for indie rock. it is very well rounded so i doubt it would have a problem with that style.

I'm assuming you mean live music.

You'll need many microphones, and different ones for voice, drums, and so on.

Many instruments might be able to mike directly, for instance, electric guitar.

For voice, you might want a unidirectional mike, so it just picks up the voice and nothing else. Search for voice mikes.

For others, perhaps an omni-directional or regular directional (depends on the instrument). A mixing board might help (they're not too expensive).

i'd go to a pro audio store inside a guitar center for some help like that.

Depens on the purpose, but I don't want to elaborate until you learn English.
