It means that your computer overheated. Make sure that all air vents are clear, along with making sure all of the fans in your computer are spinning.

Sounds like you have an HP computer, it most likely means that one of your fan's is shot, either the power supply fan or the cpu fan.
If you can open it up (don't void your warranty) turn the computer on to see if the fans are spinning. (Don't do this if you are unsure or not really into computer repair.) Also, if you have an older Dell computer, sometimes the chip that detects the heat goes on the fritz. If that's the case it's not a big issue really, just annoying to hit F1 all the time. Or replace the fans that are not working.

OK, thermal shut down is common, as a tech and an old one at that can help you. You need to power down and disconnect every cable on the back of you PC. It doesn't matter what make, model, age, or so on. You computer is overheating in some area. It needs a good cleaning. Dust build up is a major facter and the fan dust build up on the blades is helping to cause the problem.
You will need to open the computer and gently blow and dust with a small gentle brush every component in the computer. If you need help contact me at smittybo20@yahoo.com I can help you through the proceedure at no charge.

With all due respect to Smittybo's20, you don't want to use a brush on your motherboard, or any other installed printed circuit card, to clean out the dust. You could create static electricity and cause more damage. You need to get a can of compressed air used for blowing out dust in computers and their fans. Once you are satisfied that you have cleaned your computer of dust, leave the cover off and monitor all your fans when you apply power to see if any of them is not functioning properly. Replace as necessary.

Hi. Something, probably your CPU, is getting insufficient cooling. Open the case and clean out any dust. Make sure the CPU cooling fan is working.

Your cpu fan is bad. I wouldn't turn it back on until you get it fixed, unless you want to burn up a $200 CPU

It means your fans are not running and your computer is overheating. Buy new fans when you identify which fan is not running. Install the new one and boom.
