how to install a pocket when there was a swing door before?

I want to install a pocket door the original opening had a swing type door.....what is the procedure for doing somethign like this?

Well, it helps if the opening is twice as wide as the pocket door you want. If it is not, you need to determine if the wall is load bearing (carrying the weight of roof) or not.

I would suggest calling a carpenter if your opening is not twice as wide as door you would like to install. If it is, just need to purchase a pocket door frame and a door slab and follow the instructions of the frame.

take swing door off then take door jams out, and moldings , now it's opened up and you can get into where the framing is and you can put your pocket door in there!

regardless of what the girls tell you, size does matter.odds are your pocket door is smaller than the swing. if so, pull swing door and frame. measure opening.buy door , measure top of pre hung door. add studs leaving 1/4 inch bigger opening than frame. make sure studs are plumb. place frame; hinge side against plumb stud. remove 1 screw from each hinge. use level along hinge side of frame as well as accross top to ensure level. screw 3 in. screws into hinge screws you removed. place level back accross top of frame, making sure frame is level. using shims, take slack out of opposite side of frame. close door to make sure fit is good. look at crack at knob side of door and at top of door. 1/8 crack is good. when this is acheaved by addini and or removing shims, use finish nails, through frame and shims to secure frame. take utility knife and score shims. they will snap easily with light pressure. install trim....
