all week i get up at 5 -45am for work and it is a real struggle but at weekends when i want a long lie i seem to wake up around the same time, it makes me want to screeeeeeaaaaaam

I just hate that too.
All week when i get up early
all the time i am getting ready
i could just go back to bed and sleep.
But when i get the chance to lie in,
if i get woken up,
then i cannot go back to sleep and am wide awake. aaahhhh

It is annoying eh?! But I read once that it's a bad idea to try and sleep in at the weekend, and that it's much healthier to get the extra sleep by going to bed earlier and still getting up at the same time.

Makes sense really, like the other posters have said, the body likes routine.

And "they" always said - 'early to bed early to rise, makes a fellow healthy wealthy and wise'.

Your mind has a mental clock, and since you wake up at the time everyday on week days its sets it for that time to wake up around everyday. Same thing happens to me, even when i go to sleep really late i usually find my self waking up around 7 still

Unfortunately, that's just the way it is. I wish I could sleep past 7:30 on weekends. However, that is still 3 hours later than when I usually get up.

It is better to wake up at the same time on weekends to stay in the habit. Otherwise, it will be harder to keep it up during the week. You can always go back to sleep later.

I get up at the same time as you on week days and at weekends i wake up naturally at the same time but for me i get up for a little bit, have a drink etc then go back to bed at 6.30 / 7!!!!

Its the same when you have kids as well

i still wake up at 3am - the time my son would of had his night time feed like 2 years ago lol!

it is annoying!!

Humans are creatures of habbit.
You're just used of getting up at the same time.

Or maybe something is waking you up? [Like a noise, etc..]

P.S. Yes, It happens to me too!
Luckily I dont get up as early as you on weekdays!

that happens me too! but its kinda good... cos once i forgot t switch on my alarm clock (i know, i know, i am very foolish) yet i still woke up at the right time! i find it ultra sucky too cos i only get one morning to lie in! i'm always really tired when i wake up at that time, but i cant get back to sleep! grr silly waking up ness

Yes me too,though not quite as early as that. It's just the routine,your mind still thinks you gotta get up! Ruddy annoying though eh?!
