I married in a methodist church in 2004 [ my second marriage] and it cost £200. But cathedrals or larger churches will cost more.

It's as expensive as you want it to be, the church has a set fee, this you will be able to find out by contacting the vicar of the church you wish to be married in, organist, bells, flowers are all extra, so if budget is tight, leave out flowers and bells, most churches are decorated by the church flower arrangers except during advent or lent, Easter is a lovely time to get married as Churches will be decorated at no cost to you, the week after Easter Sunday will be best, but you don't have to be married in Church on a Saturday, any day is OK.
The rest of the expense is up to you, dress, suits, flowers for bride, groom etc, reception, evening reception, all these cost is up to you and your budget.

the money you pay to the church is about £250. The cost of the wedding is about fifty times that.
I recently helped organise a friend's wedding. By all mucking in (e.g. one of the gang is a good amateur photographer) we kept the total cost down to about £2,000. A more average price is north of £10,000 all in.

I agree in theory yet in the U.S. we've 50 state governments and 50 contraptions of rules regulating marriage. Elton John says he's pleased with the Civil Union regulation in the united kingdom. it quite is widespread even in spite of the shown fact that it won't take place in the U.S. with our 50 state legislatures crammed with religious kooks. for this reason the main functional answer is gay marriage yet even a liberal state like California isn't able to bypass it so i'm no longer valuable.

It is priceless being married in a church and witnessed by God. The cost is minimal.

it should be a donation that's asked for in a church. don't think god has a payroll number.... (that could be a song..)
they may have a suggested donation or something - give them a ring sure they'll be happy to talk to you.
