hi there!

i have had to replace a lot of Subaru speedometers lately!

The little circuit board on the back of the speedometer goes bad from vibration and heat. I find that most junkyard speedometers are already toasted!

So i only buy from the local Subaru dealer. They want $200.00+ for the speedometer! The junkyard wants $12.00 for the same speedometer.

Oh well, at least i know it will work!

I hope this helps! Good Luck!

sounds like a VSS (motor vehicle speed sensor). The airbag won't installation until you're travelling above a definite speed, and without that info from the VSS, the airbag device won't paintings, an identical is genuine of the ABS, because of the fact the VSS tells the ABS module no remember if the wheel is popping or sliding (locked up). it is obvious what function the VSS performs with reference on your speedometer. it is obtainable a foul connection someplace must be at fault, as nicely.

Unfortunately Subarus have a reputation for this sort of thing and though very good when young, do not grow old gracefully. Look for corrosion in exposed electrical connections. Clean and coat with silicone. Cruise controls usually require the same signal input as the speedo, so look for the wires running from the sensors to the speedo and/or cruise control .

Is it a cable operated speedometer? If yes Check the cable. If not and is electrical wire operated .Obviously if you changed all the mechanical parts you have a open circuit in the wiring
