The shell is a part of the turtle's skeleton. If you want the meat, you basically cut and scrape it out.
If you want the skeleton or shell, put the turtle out where ants can get to it and give it some time. Pile rocks up loosely around it to keep predators from taking it. (You can boil it out, but that stinks and is rather gross.)

Turtles don't just come out of the shell. The turtle's spine is along the underside of the upper carapace, so it is firmly attached.
If you're trying to save the shell, the best way to clean it (assuming you don't have a ready supply of flesh-eating beetles) is to boil it out. This will likely get rather smelly, so I'd recommend keeping the operation outdoors.

Are you serious? Turtles are attached to there shells, and if they were seperated they would be dead.

if you dont want to cut it open just put it out in the sun for a while it could take a few week but the bugs and worms will clean it out for you

you have to sun dry it, clean it out, and dry more. its going to take a while and its going to stink alot.
