When I download a printable file from a .gov site it comes up in an ".asp" extension that is not openable. When I download the same file from another computer in my home, the file does not download with .asp. In a different instance, when I go to a USPS.com/clicknship site, and download a test label, the file comes up as something.usps.cns.web.pdf.labelGenerationservlet. This file should be coming up as a pdf ONLY file. When I rename the file by deleting the labelGenerationservelt extension, it opens. I use foxit as a pdf prorgram. Do you think this is the issue or something else. I have used both IE and firefox as browsers to test this problem.

May be tracking links. Check the link by right clicking on it and selecting properties. If you are unsure, don't touch it. The government may well be tracking everyone who downloads documents for 'statistical purposes'.

How are you downloading the files? just Left click on the link? or Right click and select save target as? I think if its not happening with all the sites then there is something wrong with the sites itself where this is happening. I dont think foxit has got anything to do with downloading from internet..

any way this could be something to do with registry settings too... try to download CC Cleaner and scan your computers registry and fix any problems it finds... its free and I've been using it for a long time now... all the best...
