Well, Amber, I am 50 years old, and I am now best friends with one of my friends from the 6th grade. We went all through middle school and high school together, we went to the same college, but didn't really hang out together and didn't get very close until we worked together when we were in our early 20's. When she married, I was her maid of honor and our kids played together when they were little.

Now, my friend and I see each other every week for a movie and dinner, or dinner and some shopping. Our families have Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas dinner with each other, and feel as though we are an extended family instead of just friends.

I'm not saying that this will happen to you, but you never can tell. Put effort and love into your friendships, and you too can have lasting relationships.

Many of my Friends went to different schools after middle school. We still saw each other at some general functions: sports, church....but as we developed other interests in HS and new friends, sorry to say we drifted apart. This will happen to many as they move onto college too. I still have one good friend from middle school, although we do not talk, we see each other at reunions and do send Christmas and B'day cards to keep current on each others lives. As you move on in life, new interests and duties change you personally and so do your friends. My college friends were together for many years until the kids came along...weekends then were for our kids games, play time and family time....sadly, we all change and mature in our social needs.....
