I used to wonder the same thing, but I've finally figured it out. Silly questions don't require a lot of thought and as a result, are easier to answer. I think that there are a lot of intelligent people here on Yahoo Q&A, but due to the stress in their lives, they are just coming here to relax and have a little "lighthearted" fun and enjoyment. Personally, I'll answer a few serious questions, but I also like the silly ones that make me laugh. Yeah, sometimes one is only seeking a smile.
Okay, Rocky?

If you accept the premise that foolish people are more likely to answer foolish questions than intelligent questions, the phenomenon you describe might be due to the fact that, at least in this country, and perhaps in most, foolish people seem to outnumber intelligent people. You know, the whole "the masses are asses" thing.....

Intelligent questions require a certain amount of thought...which, in turn, requires a certain amount of actual work.
Foolish answers are much easier and a lot less work to produce.
You get what you ask for!
P.S. If I see "what is the meaning of life?" or "if a tree falls in the forest and there's no one there, does it make a sound?" one more time, I'll scream...for starters!

I think because most people don't want to have to put a lot of thought into something that is supposed to be enjoyable, people tend to answer things that would take less effort. Regardless of the fact that this was intended to be away to find out useful and helpful information from a variety of people, the majority seem to ask questions with little thought, and others seem to answer the same way.

-foolish: easy to answer and can take opinions
-intelligent: require you to think, which no one seems to like for some reason

ha yes, rather annoying isn't it? because when you ask a question and you really need an answer, everyone is too lazy to answer it because it takes BRAINPOWER... [wow, what's that?]. but seriously, 95% of the people on here don't like using their brain if they don't have to [ie, outside of work/school].
I'm not saying that i haven't answered or even asked pretty thoughtless questions, but that's just the truth.
But, to answer your question directly, do you really think 'experts' [like doctors and professors] really spend their time lurking on yahoo answers? nahh. can't even imagine.
