The best protection is to make your business name the same as the music label you want. Both corporations and non-corporations can register business names with the state where they operate. Before you do that, check the US trademark office database to be sure that it is not currently in use, you would be surprised at how many names are trademarked already. Then check the state database, as your business name will have to be unique. Once registered, only you can operate as say "XXX Records Inc"
