I hit a squirrel today. I tried to swerve around him, but it was too late. I was quite shaken by it. Has anyone ever hit a bigger animal, like a dog or cat?

I was driving down the street w/ my truck once and was going at least 35mph. This cat came out into the middle of the street and I was saying to myself oh good just stay right there kitty and I'll miss you. So what does the cat do? Insted of going back the other way (which would have been safe) it crosses right in front of me. So I tried to swerve and miss it but in my efforts I killed it and wound up on the sidewalk. Nearly hitting a fire hydrant. Everyone came running out saying...we saw it all its not your fault. I was lucky I didnt hurt my truck. I looked at the poor cat and said awe to myself and backed off the sidewalk and left.

No, but an animal almost hit my car once. I was on I-90 going towards Buffalo, NY at three in the morning, and a deer came right across the road, and I almost hit the damn thing. Those things can do more damage to the car than themselves.

Never, and if I did, I would be totally shooken up too!

One time, I was driving on a very quite road and saw what appeared to be a small black garbage bag on the road, up ahead of me. I wasn't sure what it was, so I turned the wheel to make sure I didn't hit it and stopped at the side of the road. It's a good thing I moved the car because it was NOT a black bag, it was a black kitten! I got out of my car and made sure that the cat got off of the road and back to safety.

=)

I don't swerve for anything! Don't try to hit them either. I've hit everything from a bird to a chipmunk to a cocky freshmen showing off in front of girls. Just kept on rolling!

I never hit a dog or cat but saw a poor cat that was hit on the road yesterday. I also saw a dog hit once, and he survived but had a broken leg and we found the owner and the owner said "thanks" and tied the dog up and left him. K, enough of my stories now.

I hit a deer. It made a decent dent in my hood but the car was still driveable. I was pretty shaken at the time since the doe was still alive but their legs were broken. The Sheriff that stopped to check out the scene had to kill it with a shotgun. I couldn't watch. But then, I'm kind of a wuss.

I've only hit squirrels. I think 2...I almost hit a cat. Silly kitty jumped out right in front of me, luckily, was only going about 15 MPH and stopped before it got hurt.

I hit a Mountain Lion , just his back end slightly. he stopped and walked towards the car...like an Idiot I was getting out to make sure he was ok.

It was an amotional moment. i stood by my car and he was about 4 feet away. I softly said I was sorry and he lowered his head and walked away.

I love animals and would do anything in my power to help them

i've hit 5 deer, all of them just slight accidents although i broke a big buck's back leg in one incident.
piece of advice? use your brakes, but don't swerve for animals. you may lose control and wreck. i did that once and rolled my car and was busted all to hell and back, and i'm an excellent driver.
