Rush has been crucified for 3 years because of his painkiller addiction, now we hear "let's be compassionate for Patrick Kennedy" Where was the commpassion for Rush? At least Rush wasn't out driving a car where he could of killed someone. This double standard, one for conservatives and one for liberals has got to stop. Patrick Kennedy should resign his position immediatley. He has got to be held to a higher standard being an elected official. Rush is a talking head who does not make US policy. US policy while stoned out of his mind on oxycontin. Come on Dems, where is the righteous indignation. I challenge the Democrats to demand Kennedy resign.

Alright, I seem to have hit a nerve here. Number one...Rush is NOT an elected official who took an oath to uphold the laws of this land. Mr Kennedy was getting his oxycontin the same way Rush was, by Dr. Shopping and lying to Dr.s. The problem I see here is, if the person in question here was let's say...George Bush, the Lib's would be screaming for his head and he'd be forced to resign by tonight. C'mon Dem's whats right is right, Patrick Kennedy needs to resign today. He can get another job, just not as an elected public official.

No, it's not just a "double" standard; it's a "triple" standard: one for conservatives, one for liberals, and one for Kennedys--they can never do any wrong! Why would Patrick Kennedy even think of resigning? His father, Ted, is a murderer and has never paid for that. Daddy was there, partying, when his nephew or cousin or whoever raped the woman in Miami, but got away untarnished. Daddy knew about the other cousin who murdered the neighbor girl 20 years ago and didn't do anything about that. Daddy taught Patrick how to be an addict and a drunk and how to think he was above the law!!! Where is daddy in all of this? Has he said anything or gone to be by his son's side? Or did he leave his son in the proverbial gutter like he left Patrick's mother after ruining her life and turning her into a drunk as well? Patrick learned his father's lessons well!

He is a Kennedy, they seem to live by different rules than the rest of us, although for the life of me I can't figure out why. There is no difference, except Liberals fear Rush Limbaugh and Patrick Kennedy is basically a non-threat to anyone, except those on the road with him when he goes on a binge. Democrats really do need to clean their own house before they point fingers at anyone, they have more and bigger problems than Patrick Kennedy.

I'm guessing it's family sympathy. Look at all the tragedy in the Kennedy family. Rush is not in the same boat.

I could be wrong.

Patrick Kennedy wasn't on the air waves talking about how horrible druggies are while being one. That's called hypocrisy. Just like Newt Gingrich having an affair with one of his office workers while trying to impeach Clinton. They all have faults, but it's the hypocrisy that gets to people. Like that minister in Colorado who was having sex with a gay prostitute while condemning gays from the pulpit. It's not that the conservatives having faults that bothers most people, it's the hypocrisy that gets to us.

Rush was doing it the illegal way, he's lucky he didnt get thrown in jail like the rest of the pill heads for "Doctor shopping"---that's what he did, quite frankly. I think he made a quiet deal and perhaps a doc in the box or two got busted down the road, courtesy of Mr. Limpbush.

Patrick Kennedy was just your normal garden variety pillhead, he didnt forge prescrips like Noell Bush (W's niece), or doctor shop.

No different for any of them, or for you for that matter, if you had a cold and took some over the counter meds, they all say "use caution when driving".

Let's be careful out there.

What are those lunatics talking about. I never heard Rush talk about drug addicts going to prison or the death penalty for them and I actually listen to him. Can you imagine che listening to him? It would be like Mars attacks when the aliens heard the yodeling.

I have compassion for all addicts, regardless of political orientation.

I see compassion isn't popular. I wonder which political side thumbs down compassion here, while calling itself such explicitly...(1 up, 3 downs at the time of this edit)

2nd Edit: Steve, get over it already! It's really up to the citizens of Rhode Island whether he stays or goes.
