There are bugs in vista but its new they will be fixed. I upgraded my xp to vista and I hated it BUT
I bought a new pc with it on it and I LOVE IT. I would not recomend upgrading unless you buy a new pc that is built for it.

All you people that are ear bashing vista try getting a machine that is capable of running it,,Ive been using Vista now for about a month and you know what.its great not to have little pop ups that say,,this is not responding or that is not responding..Vista is a much more stable operating system and yes there are plenty of anti virus programmes out there for it,the only thing i will say is if you do go for a laptop with vista on it make sure its 32bit as its better for running progs in compatibility mode.. anyway i hope this helps and in my opinion Vista is the way forward ,PS i still use win xp on a different machine also... Here is what I would do... Consider buying a laptop from Costco... Yes, they have a couple that still have XP on them. GO WITH IT.
If you don't like that idea, then BUY more memory for your current computer, so it works better and faster. Visit http://www.coastmemory.com and see what memory your system takes.
If you still don't like that idea, then consider buying one of the new computers that you are looking at. I recommend Toshiba. But that computer with Vista, should have 2GB of RAM if you want awesome. Like it or not, you probably should get a laptop that has Windows Vista Premium installed, instead of the silly home version. You see, if you want what makes Vista any good, it's the premium version that has it. If you want Vista to run well, then get LOTS of RAM.
If you do buy a Vista based computer with only 512MB of RAM, it will suck... so EXPAND the RAM right away, so it does not run like an old DOG.
Good luck and Happy Computing!

Vistas great especially if your getting it with a new computer. one huge complaint about it is that alot of drivers and software aren't compatible but you won't run into it much. It can be kinda of annoying at first but you get used to it After you've had it a while you get withdrawel pains using anything else. Theres other MINOR bugs that will be fixed in the first service pack coming out this fall. theres no alternatives since eventually you'll have to upgrade from XP to Vista.

Just use your current XP license on your new machine. Technically you should remove it from the old one, and then you're clear license-wise with Microsoft. When Vista is better and all the bugs have been fixed (or even discovered!) you can upgrade back to vista, just make sure a disk for Vista is provided with the new laptop and a license key.

dont beleive what other people are saying about vist, its the operating system for the 21st century
people said the same about xp when it was released in 2001,and it was only really accepted in 2004 when service pack 2 was released
theres nothing wrong with vista, but i would recommend you stay clear of the "basic" version as this has none of the nice extras that the other versions have such as the 3d aero, and the 3d tilted windows
as your buying a latop pre-installed with vista you can be sure it will have decent components in it as vista requires such high hardware specifications
good luck

Vista will come good eventually, its new and has loads of bugs reported at the moment, given time just like all OS they will be ironed out then you will have a an OS that will deliver the goods whatever you are looking for in an operating system, give it time, is my advice.

Vista is not that bad unless you have good hardware to support that resource hogger. Microsoft shouldnt have made it and if they did, they should have made sure that it runs on low memory but Vista needs 1GB of RAM (min) and other high requirements of graphics card. But it is a good looking, more secure OS from MS.

There is nothing wrong with Vista, SHEESH!
I remember when people were saying to stick with Windows '98 cos XP is rubbish. If we listened to and paid heed to those people, then we would still be using MSDOS.
