The Searchers with John Wayne. It deals with the prejudice against Native Americans during that period after the Civil War. One of the top 5 Westerns and top 10 movies ever made.

have you seen australian "the proposition"? it's not a western western, but it set in pretty much the same period as most of the westerns - only "down under". brilliant!
