when what they are really thinking about prejudice.

But why do they complain so much? Are white people getting the worst of racial oppression these days?

Chuck S - Taking over is a white thing, apparently you people are the only ones with that preoccupation.

Joe C - You're full of it. I am already familiar with that story and you have got the facts all jacked up, but I do know that your version of the facts can be found on white nationalist websites (hmmm ...) but the media didn't cover up anything, you can find several articales about it on any Knoxville local TV website.

We were talking about this in my social problems class and people are more likely to be racist if they're uneducated. Because of that, my professor (who is white) said that a lot of the white people who are racist don't have the a great education, don't have a great job and are struggling in life. When they see a minority doing better than them, they start scapegoating and blame them for all of their problems. As for white people who are intelligent and racist (if an intelligent racist even exists...) I have no clue why they're choosing ignorance.

edit: I just thought I'd add that other races scapegoat too. Racism sucks coming from anyone, but I still think people of all races should stop blaming others and take responsibility for themselves.

White people feel too much emphasis is put on the so-called hardships of minorities. Years ago, minorities were indeed treated differently and had hardships. Today, we all have the same opportunities. There is no need to get extra benefits based on race or color. It only further divides people. None of us got to choose our race and color. Today, people should just be treated equally, that's originally what the oppressed minorities wanted. They did not want more benefits, just equal and now they have them.

White people also feel they must be careful in everything they say so they don't offend any minority. This is because unfortunately some minorities will often immediately claim racism and discrimination over any word and very often it's taken out of context.

If a white man says the N-word (see I won't even say it), it's terrible. However, if a black man (or must I say African-American) says it, it's cool.

Chuck S- well one place would be Spain. The blacks who took over Spain for a couple of hundred years brought Art, Philosophy, and many other things to the underdeveloped country. They brought prosperity to Spain and made it the strongest nation in Europe until 1492 when the Europeans regained control. Also, you should know that the Sankore university in Timbuktu had more books in it, than could be found in all of Europe at the time. Those blacks had a kingdom with virtually no crime and almost 100% literacy.

As for the question, I think Serenity has done a fine job of explaining. They are just doing what they accuse us of. It's funny how people always judge you for things they are guilty of themselves.

Well, I can't speak for everyone else, but I complain about racism because some people believe that it doesn't even exist anymore. I'm white and therefore I can't imagine what it's like to be discriminated against simply because of skin, and of course I'm not getting the worst of racial opression but I believe that racism is wrong, plain and simple, against any racial group. As for prejudice, I guess that people just get them confused even though they're not the same thing.

Prejudice is exercising your opinion, which is usually offensive. Racism is exercising power, which strengthens oppression.

America has a history of racism towards blacks that no one can deny now, nor in 2057 for that matter. Hate towards blacks was passed down for generations, for decades and centuries in this country. Because of this, white people have a natural superiority complex in this country. How can it not be? Did white people (as a whole) just wake up in the '70's and say "Blacks are equal to me"??
Did the centuries of racism during the founding of this nation just disappear after 40 yrs? Naacp and affirmative action were put in place to combat this but lately I'm hearing more and more people cry foul. Until there's a black president and dirty black cops terrorizing whites on the street, I'm not buying this white racism crap.

I started to type and realise that someone else has given a very good answer - and that is Serenity.

I totally agree with him (or her) that the racism sucks coming from anyone. Let all do our part by eradicating it. Such questions like yours do not help. (anyway, it is against the Yahoo! Answers Community Guidelines to raise such questions).

Funny you should say that, I just read an article on Yahoo News about white South Africans feeling almost like they're being oppressed by the blacks since they started having blacks in power. Some kids said it was hard for a white dude to get a job in this black run country.
Interestingly enough, 90% of the companies in South Africa are run by whites, and they say that the profit is rolling in just fine ever since they put an end to Aparthied.
Funny story huh?

It's reverse racism actually. A good example: Whites don't meet the criteria for certain scholarships that Blacks qualify for. That's so wrong but that's the way the system works. :( Racism sucks so bad! I hate it. I think our generation has learned absolutely "nothing" from the past generations mistakes. It's gonna get ugly when we stand before God and have to give an account for our actions. I for one, refuse to hate based on complexion. We are so much more than our skin tone, eye, and hair color. (Or lack of hair :)
