My bro and I are visiting London in May. I hear London is a fortune for Americans because the US dollar is so weak right now. We are looking for a nice, clean, roach-free hotel that won't put us in the poorhouse. We would like something close to public transit too. Any tips?

I like the Holiday Inn across from Victoria Station. You can find deals online and book in advance. It's right in the middle of things, too!

http://www.smoothhound.co.uk/ will lists guesthouses/b&b's.
http://www.alpharooms.com/ and http://www.hotelclub.com/ lists hotels. http://www.visitlondon.co.uk/ gives tourist info and may have discounts on hotels.

http://www.multimap.com/ gives maps and tells you nearest tube station. http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/ gives info on London's transport system and a tube map.

You won't be more than 10 minutes away from a tube station if staying inside the tube's Zone 1 boundary (although you will be in central London and therefore expensive accomodation). You may be better of staying within the tube Zone 2 boundary where you are still close enough to central London but accomodation can be cheaper.

DONT GO TO CHESTNUT LUXURY INN! haha ....it was awful... i dont know but if you go to discount hotel on google uk you will get a good deal. alternatively go on expedia or octupus. they're the best for cheap hotels. If i was going i would probably play it safe and go for a travelodge (quite cheap but nice) www.travelodge.co.uk or for a little bit more go for the 'holidayinn.co.uk. (the cheaper version is holiday inn express).you should not pay much more than £60 which i believe is about 120 dollers?
or if thats too dear go to a hosel! it would be a laugh and u would meet loads of travelers lie yourself?

For anything decent and near public transport, expect to pay no less than £50-70 per person per night - $100-130.
