depends on what you are looking for. I live in Paoli, moved here 6.5 years ago from outside NYC. all the main line suburbs are great. Paoli, Berwyn, Wayne, excellent communities. Further west, Malvern is OK. West Chester itself is a mixed bag; has some nice areas but some rundown areas as well and is home to west chester university which has its own issues.

Phoenixville is a former mill town experiencing a renaissance, not as tony as the Main Line but an interesting community with possibilities.

Anywhere from Wayne to Paoli you will find a wonderful environment for children. There is an excellent YMCA in Paoli (the former Cassatt estate).

you can also check out this resource which has blogs about various towns sorted by state:

As with the first responder, any of the towns on the Main Line are good, but expensive.

West Chester is nice for the most part, and is considered an up and coming area for the outer suburbs.

Further out, Kennett Square is a very nice town that offers the best of a small town environment while being close enough to Philly to enjoy the big city.

Downingtown is a mixed bag, but is up and coming, somewhat.

I would stay away from Parkersburg or Coatesville...they are still rundown and have not experienced a the uptick of suburban development.

I live in Phoenixville. It is undergoing a Renaissance of sorts & is a great place to raise kids. The public school district is not the best, but not bad. I personally will send my children to private school, but as a whole, it is a really nice town with great location in relation to other suburbs & Philadelphia.

I am not answering your question. However, I was wondering if you could share your answers with me. We are also relocating to this county and I have two children and have the same concerns.

Thank you. Mariepilk@yahoo.com
